Ball State University

The School of Music invites nominations and applications for a full-time, tenure-track appointment as an Assistant Professor of Music Theory and Composition and Assistant Director of the Engineering and Technology Program (www.bsu.edu/met) with competencies in the following areas: familiarity with operating a computer music and recording studio; maintenance, planning, and development of MET curriculum; current knowledge of hardware/software sound synthesis and signal processing and MIDI and computer communications and MAC/PC based audio recording and editing.

Baylor University

Baylor University announces two positions in music theory. Both will begin in August, 2002; one is a tenure-track appointment at the rank of assistant or associate professor, and the other is a renewable, but non-tenured, position at the rank of lecturer. POSITION: Tenure track, full time, nine month position as assistant professor of composition and coordinator of instructional technology

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Scholarship and Creative Activities: Qualified candidates will be active composers with a growing national career, whose work displays breadth and imagination, demonstrated through a significant portfolio of compositions using electronic as well as traditional media. Candidates must be committed to contemporary music as evidenced in creative activity and teaching, and must display a strong interest in teaching undergraduate and graduate composition. A breadth of knowledge and interests suited to the study and creation of music as a specialized discipline and within the liberal and creative arts is also required. The individual selected will be expected to demonstrate and maintain a high level of creative activity as a composer and to develop and encourage curricular initiatives which promote cooperation across disciplines.

Teaching: Teach courses in composition as part of the undergraduate and graduate sequences, possibly including: composer lab 1-2, electronic music 1-2, individual composition lessons, special topics courses in composition and new media and graduate seminars on topics appropriate to the candidate's areas of expertise. Advising undergraduate and graduate students in composition expected.

Technology Expertise and Coordination: The successful candidate will have extensive experience with technology and its use in composition and musical creativity. This position will be responsible for rebuilding the electronic music studio of the School, for which funding has been dedicated. This position must also have extensive experience in instructional technology in music, including experience with authoring systems, multimedia, Internet resources and the application of these within a networked computer cluster environment. This position will coordinate the instructional technology of the School of Music, including:

New England Conservatory

The Music Theory Department of the New England Conservatory seeks to fill a full-time position to teach Conservatory students at all levels, from basic musicianship to electives in music analysis. Qualifications include: qualified teaching experience in music theory at the undergraduate and graduate levels, preferably in a conservatory/university setting; an earned doctorate and record of professional accomplishment; excellent written and oral communication skills; and a commitment to artistic and academic excellence.
