FACULTY VACANCY IN MUSIC THEORY
Beginning January 8, 2006
POSITION: Visiting Assistant Professor of Theory for Spring 2006
SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
QUALIFICATIONS: Completed Ph.D. or ABD in Music Theory, university teaching
experience at undergraduate level required, at graduate level preferred;
demonstrated excellence or clear promise of ability in music theory research.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Division of Music Theory and Composition at the University
of Maryland, College Park seeks a scholar of established reputation or
exceptional promise whose interests complement the specializations of our
current faculty. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to teach courses in
Western music theory at the undergraduate level and to direct a graduate seminar
in music theory in their research specialty. The faculty member is expected to
participate fully in the Division and School of Music.

the magnificent Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center at Maryland, which it

The Department of Music Theory and Composition, Don Wright Faculty of Music, The University of Western Ontario invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in music theory at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective July 1, 2006. Applicants should have a completed Ph.D., with specialization in music theory, when the appointment begins. The successful candidate will demonstrate a high level of skill in teaching, and will be expected to teach a wide range of undergraduate courses (including large-enrolment courses) and graduate courses and to supervise students in the M.A. and Ph.D. programs, while maintaining an active program of research. We are looking for a scholar with broad interests, versatility, and a commitment to excellence in both teaching and research.

The Department of Music at Tufts University announces two positions--one in
Musicology and the other in Ethnomusicology--at the rank of Assistant,
Associate, or Full Professor. We anticipate that one of these hires will be at a
senior level and the other at a junior level. The areas of specialization are
open. We seek candidates with broad interests, proven and distinguished
excellence in scholarship (or exceptional promise in the case of junior
candidates), and a strong commitment to teaching in an imaginative and
intellectually stimulating manner. Ph.D. and teaching experience required.

The Agnes Scott College Department of Music invites applications for an anticipated tenure-track position in music theory at the rank of assistant professor to begin Fall 2006. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate music theory courses, oversee music theory lab, teach a first year seminar and senior seminar on a rotating schedule and participate in the musical and academic life of the department and the college. Doctorate in music theory or music composition is required and should be completed by July 2006. We seek a candidate with evidence of a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and scholarly/creative activity, as well as knowledge of computer applications in music. Applicants with strengths in CAI, composition, or other related areas are encouraged to apply. A demonstrable knowledge of and interest in music from under-represented groups (women and minorities) and from outside the Western canon is desired.
