Rhythm and Meter. The rhythm of the leading voice of the canon retains its metrical ambiguity from Block 5—it consists of three four-bar hypermeasures, but with truncations and extensions. The following voice has the same internal issues, but does everything one measure later, greatly disrupting the already fragile sense of metric regularity. The tension in the pitch domain between melody and harmony is reflected in the rhythmic domain by tension between upbeats and downbeats, at both the metric and hypermetric levels.
