The succession of moves in this figure has been unrealistically simplified for the purposes of illustration; a caller would never simply direct dancers to slide from one configuration to another. However, "swing through"--the critical move in this transformation--will have precisely the same effect no matter how elaborate the caller makes the entrance and exit.

The West couple joins the South couple and forms an ocean wave. Meanwhile, the East couple joins the North couple and forms an ocean wave.

The pair of dancers on the West end of the South ocean wave step into the West side of the square formation. Meanwhile the pair of dancers on the East end of the North ocean wave step into the East side of the square formation.
