Texture. This block is divided into four fragments. The first three are choral statements, with textural breaks (corresponding to the series hexachords) after each of the three words of the text. There is some instrumental doubling of the choral parts, but these are not shown on the reduced score. The fourth fragment is a sort of instrumental postlude. The first fragment of this block (measure 12) repeats the last fragment of the first block (measure 5). As before, the fragments are linked by common tones, most conspicuously the melodic C-D and the chordal E-F-F-G sustained in the first fragment and used cadentially at the end of the last fragment.
