Texture. A solemn four-voice chorale, with sporadic instrumental doubling (not shown on the reduced score). While the melodic lines, especially the soprano, generally move conjunctly, including many semitones, the spacing of the chords is relatively open, with occasional whole tones but no semitones between adjacent voices. Tonal echoes are pretty distant in this passage, but there is at least a hint of interest in the perfect fifth A-E as a stable structure at the beginning and ending of the passage.
