Motive. The upper voice moves C-C♯-D♯. As a combination of intervals 1 and 2, it recalls many previous melodic combinations of these intervals and the interest in sc(013) evident in the first block. The final two notes, C♯-D♯, recall many earlier statements of that combination of notes. The cadential arrival on a high D♯ represents the culmination of a great deal of motivic and transformational activity throughout the movement.
