Figure 34. Neal’s Common-Tone Modulation

The frame contains a definition of common-tone modulation. Two third related chords (I and bVI) are shown on the staff. When the user clicks on Demonstrate Modulation, a whole note—the common tone—moves across the screen from one chord to the other. When the user clicks on Play Modulation, the excerpt is played, while the first and then second chord are highlighted. The change takes place at the point of modulation. Clicking on Modulation in Score shows another card with the musical notation for the score, and the user can hear the modulation again in context of the song.
