Position: Assistant Professor of Composition

General Information:

The UNL School of Music invites applications
and nominations for the following position:
POSITION TITLE: ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF COMPOSITION, TENURE EARNING

Qualifications:

Doctorate in music composition required. Equal expertise, facility, and enthusiasm in classical and jazz composition required. Because of the considerable expertise of other UNL faculty in the areas of orchestral and opera composition, the successful candidate may represent a balance in other areas. These might include band music, chamber music, music for dance, choral music, etc., and must include jazz composition, as mentioned above. Expertise in Finale or Sibelius software required. Expertise in ProTools, Logic Pro, and other digital media/film scoring software strongly preferred. College teaching experience preferred.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

Teaching: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in classical and jazz composition, orchestration, arranging, and pedagogy. Duties also may include (1) the teaching of a course in film scoring, depending upon the candidate’s strengths and the needs of the School, and (2) involvement with the new Composition Music Education Initiative at UNL. Recruit outstanding undergraduate and graduate students in music composition.

Research: Establish/maintain a program of outstanding artistic and scholarly productivity in the field of music composition, both classical and jazz, that contributes to the national/ international discussions of the discipline.

Service: Serve on faculty committees (School, College, and University); serve in professional organizations (examples may include ASCAP, American Composers Forum, Society of Composers, Inc., Society of Composers and Lyricists, Film Music Society, CMS, International Association of Jazz Educators, etc.); work in a collegial fashion with faculty, staff, students, and administration. Additional duties as assigned by the Director of the School of Music.
