Institution: University of Masschusetts Lowell Position: Assistant Professor of Music Education General Information: The Department of Music seeks candidates for a full-time tenure-track position in Music Education, at the rank of Assistant Professor, for Fall 2008. Position beginning August 2008 Qualifications: We seek individuals with expertise and research interests in a variety of areas – of particular interest would be music education in urban teaching; music education philosophy; music education and special-needs students; early childhood music and composition; interdisciplinary application of arts in education; music and educational technology; and world music. Other research areas will also be considered. Candidates with experience in technology applications for music education, early childhood music, choral repertoire and rehearsal techniques, and/or vocal pedagogy are especially encouraged to apply. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Earned Doctorate in music education. Demonstrated ability and experience teaching undergraduate- and graduate-level courses in music education (2-5 years of college- teaching experience desired), as well as experience teaching general music in public schools at the elementary and middle school levels. Demonstrated dynamic and innovative teaching experience with ability to collaborate across disciplines. Demonstrated clear and articulate communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to engage students in clearly articulated discourse. Demonstrated potential for publications in scholarly journals Demonstrated ability working with diverse student and faculty population. Excellent organizational, computer and networking skills. Job Description/Responsibilities: The successful candidate will participate in the leadership and vision of our many innovative and successful school- university partnerships, interdisciplinary projects, and community outreach programs; teach courses central to the curriculum; supervise student teaching and clinical practicums; advise undergraduate and/or graduate students; participate in recruitment and retention efforts; represent the program and university at national and international conferences while maintaining an active research agenda in the region; and participate in faculty governance and professional service activities.
