Institution: Oberlin College Conservatory of Music Position: Music Theory and Aural Skills (three positions) General Information: Three full-time, tenure-track faculty positions in Music Theory and Aural Skills, beginning with the 2009-10 academic year. Qualifications: Commitment to excellence in the teaching of Music Theory and Aural Skills; one or more years of full-time teaching experience (beyond the graduate assistant level) is preferred; completion o f the PhD in Music Theory, or equivalent professional experience; evidence of ongoing scholarly productivity in the field of Music Theory or Aural Skills; keyboard competence; and a background in performance or composition indicating active and accomplished musicianship. Job Description/Responsibilities: Teach courses drawn from the lower-division theory and aural skills sequence, which involves four semesters of harmony, voice leading, and analysis (concentrating on music of the eighteenth through the twentieth centuries), assigned according to the needs of the division. Teach upper division courses in form, counterpoint, twentieth-century music, or other special topics, assigned according to the needs of the division. Participate fully in departmental placement examinations and meetings as scheduled, and in responsibilities such as private readings and supervision of Theory Majors‚ Senior Projects.
