Institution: The Curtis Institute of Music Position: Musical Studies Chair/Instructor General Information: The Curtis Institute of Music, located in Center City, Philadelphia, seeks a Chair and full-time Instructor for our Musical Studies Department. Qualifications: He or she will have teaching experience and proven expertise in one or more of the fields listed below. A background in administration at the post-secondary level is desirable. The ideal candidate will hold an appropriate terminal degree in Music and present credentials that represent significant musical achievements. The Chair will be expected to maintain a residence in the greater Philadelphia area and to be present on campus at least four days per week. Job Description/Responsibilities: The specific duties of the position include: Instruct, on a FT basis, courses that may include any of the course content noted below requiring a min. of 12 hrs. of weekly instruction or similar contact hours in addition to administrative duties, supervise curriculum development including course content and instruction and provide resource and development opportunities for faculty as needed, coordinate all Musical Studies activities, including monthly faculty meetings, placement testing and advising for students, advise the Dean on faculty hiring, the assessment of faculty teaching and the assessment of student learning, act as a liaison to the administration, major faculty, library, and the liberal arts department, and acquire and manage research resources as well as develop and oversee extra-curricular musical studies projects. The Chair of Musical Studies will supervise all levels of the following course content: Harmony/Theory, Counterpoint, Score Reading, Keyboard Studies, Music History, Form and Analysis, and Solfege. The position will start September 1, 2009.
