Position: Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Music Theory

General Information:

1 year (renewable for up to one additional year) starting fall 2009.

Qualifications:

The Department of Music of the University of Chicago invites applications for a post-doctoral position in music theory at the rank of Instructor from candidates who have completed their PhD within the last four years. In exceptional cases, the candidate may be in the final year of finishing the dissertation.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

The postdoc will teach four music courses distributed among those offered at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Every effort will be made to schedule these courses during two consecutive quarters, leaving one quarter during the academic year free for research and writing.

Salary Range: The salary is $45,000 plus full benefits (medical and retirement)

Applicants should send a CV, three letters of recommendation, and an abstract of their dissertation. In their cover letter, applicants should explain their teaching interests and describe their research plans for 2009-10. Applicants currently holding a faculty appointment should arrange for a letter from their department chair or dean stating that the applicant's institution will grant the appropriate leave time.
