Position: Assistant Professor

General Information:

Tenure-track position starting 1 September 2009.

Qualifications:

• Doctorate required.
• Evidence of successful college-level teaching.
• Record of established research in music theory and of potential for continued scholarly activity.


Job Description/Responsibilities:

• Teaching responsibilities will include core theory and ear-training courses, in addition to upper-level and graduate courses for theory and composition majors.
• Directing undergraduate theory theses.
• Maintaining active writing and research profile.
• Collegial participation in departmental activities.
• Contribution to the department’s recruitment and retention goals.


Salary Range: Commensurate with rank and experience.

Send a letter of application, your current CV, three recent letters of recommendation, a single representative example of recent work on a theoretical topic (not to exceed 40 pages), and a DVD or VHS video of theory teaching (class participants do not need to be present). The curriculum vitae and letters of recommendation will be shared with departmental faculty. Materials will not be returned.

We offer the Bachelor of Music degrees in Applied Music, Music Education, and Theory and Composition; the Bachelor of Arts with a major in music and concentration in Music Management and Master of Music degrees in Performance, Teaching and Composition. The Department comprises 60 full and part-time faculty and professionals. The Department of Music enrolls approximately 340 undergraduate majors, minors, and graduate students.
