Institution: U of I, Chicago-Department of Performing Arts Position: Asst. Prof., Theory/Jazz Theory/Jazz Performance General Information: Theory/Jazz Theory/Jazz Performance, Tenure-track. Begins 8/16/09. Qualifications: Teach undergrad theory, ear-training, counterpoint, private lessons, improvisation. Minimum qualifications: outstanding jazz performer, expertise in common practice and jazz theory, 3 yr. successful college tchg exp, expertise in notation tech, PhD in Music required. Desirable: orchestration skill, publications, grant-seeking exp, arts/educ partnerships. Job Description/Responsibilities: Applicants must have an exemplary teaching record, with a minimum of two years experience at the college level. A deep understanding of classical music and jazz traditions is required in addition to the ability to integrate both into the teaching process. Candidates must be able to work effectively with students and faculty from diverse backgrounds. The ideal candidate will have an interest in interdisciplinary and/or cross-cultural music performance, especially pertaining to classical music and jazz. She/he would participate in interdisciplinary activities within the College and University and must participate in the Chicago arts and education communities.
