Program Success:
Strong collegiate music program with several unique course offerings and many performing ensembles including Wind Symphony, Chamber Ensembles (Woodwind, Brass, Percussion , Strings, Piano), string Orchestra, Chorales, Jazz Singers, and Steel Bands in a department with approximately 600 music student enrollments. Preparation for several major concerts each semester and several solo and ensemble events and auditions occurs year-round.


Qualifications:

Requirements of Candidates
• Master’s Degree with 18 credit hours in Music minimum OR a Master’s degree or higher in a related field WITH 18 graduate hours in Music Theory.
• Professional performing/presentation experience preferred
• Team teaching capability in the college environment
• Music Theory teaching experience in the college/university and/or high school environments preferred
• Excellent communication and organizational skills in a diverse socio-economic environment
• Official transcript is required at time of interview.
• Will be subject to a criminal background check and/or fingerprinting prior to employment with the District.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

Position Description
• Teach Fundamentals of Music Theory 1 and 2 Courses (developmental pre-college level)
• Teach Music Theory 1 & 2 and Musicianship 1 and 2 Courses (college level)
• Coordinate all curriculum with the full time music theory professor

General Duties
• Present/teach objectives described in the curriculum for a course.
• Efficiently handle paperwork related to student grades and college responsibilities.
• Must contain excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Work cooperatively with faculty, students, colleagues, local teachers and community members; attend orientation/training sessions.
• Must be able to efficiently maintain student records and meet deadlines associated with student performance.
• Must be willing to participate in course, discipline and college assessment activities. Performs related duties as assigned.


Salary Range: $41.03 per contact hour, $328 per credit hour

Other Information:

The Richland College Department of Music in Dallas, TX is currently seeking a music theory professor to begin teaching in the Fall 2012 Semester. Responsibilities for this adjunct position include mainly teaching pre-college level Fundamentals of Music Theory 1 and 2 and college level Music Theory and Musicianship 1 and 2 as well as coordinating student curriculum with the full-time music theory professor. Qualified applicants are those who possess at least a Master’s Degree with 18 credit hours minimum in Music OR a Master’s degree or higher in a related field WITH 18 graduate hours in Music Theory, and preferably music theory teaching experience in the college/university and/or high school environments. Essential skills include team teaching, excellent communication and organization, and ability to work well with a diverse socio-economic student and employee population. Must be available Monday through Friday in the morning. The Richland College Music Department is a strong music program with several unique course offerings such as Digital Music Production, Composition and many performing ensembles including Wind Symphony, Orchestra, Chamber Ensembles for Woodwinds, Brass, Percussion, Strings, and Piano, as well as Chorales, Gospel Choir, Jazz Singers, and Steel Bands in a department with approximately 600 music student enrollments. Preparation occurs for several major concerts and events each semester. Candidates will complete an interview process that includes discussing pedagogy and experiences with the music department administrators and faculty.
