The Marcel A. Desautels Faculty of Music at the University of Manitoba invites applications for a full-time tenure-track probationary position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Music Theory, commencing July 1, 2013.

Qualifications:

Candidates should hold a Ph.D in Music Theory. Applicants with an equivalent combination of education, research, and teaching experience will be considered.

We are seeking an outstanding researcher with a record of success in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The candidate should demonstrate promise of continuing scholarly activities on local, national and international levels. The faculty is seeking a versatile, adaptable team player -- a supportive colleague with exemplary teaching and research skills.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate Music Theory courses. The teaching load will include: Music Theory 1, Music Theory 2, Music of the 20th Century 1, Music of the 20th Century 2, and Graduate Theory Seminar, in addition to possible special topics courses in the successful candidate's area(s) of expertise.

Music faculty members participate actively in the workings of the unit, including recruitment and auditions of prospective students. Service is expected on University and Faculty committees as well as juries and recitals, as is professional achievement and growth through continued performance, research, and/or publication. The successful candidate will join a dynamic faculty that is active locally, nationally and internationally in teaching, performing and research. 
In the fall of 2014, the Marcel A. Desautels Faculty of Music will move to impressive new state-of-the-art facilities.

Salary Range: Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The University of Manitoba's Faculty of Music has a growing enrollment of 270 undergraduate and 20 graduate students, and offers a B.Mus. degree in performance, composition, history and general studies, a Bachelor of Jazz Studies degree, an integrated music education program, a Post-Baccalaureate program in performance and a M.Mus in performance, composition and conducting. There are 26 full-time and 50 sessional faculty members.
