Institution: University of Illinois at Chicago Position: Assistant Professor General Information: The ideal candidate will help define the Department Qualifications: Applicants must prove excellence in music theory, jazz performance, and jazz composition/arranging based on performances, publications, manuscripts, recordings, reviews, and awards as appropriate. They must have a significant record of excellence in teaching common practice theory, applied lessons, and performance courses at the college level. An earned doctorate degree is required. Desirable background includes: fluency in notation software, record of grant-seeking activity, record of successful student recruitment, and a record of multi-disciplinary collaboration. Job Description/Responsibilities: The Department of Theatre and Music at the University of Illinois at Chicago seeks a distinguished jazz artist with strong teaching skills in the areas of theory and performance beginning August 2013. The position will be a full-time appointment as Assistant Professor, tenure track. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in common practice and 20th century theory, ear-training, counterpoint, analytic techniques, and applied jazz performance. The individual must maintain an active professional career as a jazz performer and jazz composer and/or scholar. All faculty are expected to serve on committees and assist in student advising and recruitment.
