Institution: Memorial University of Newfoundland - School of Music Position: Assistant Professor General Information: Memorial University is home to Atlantic Canada’s largest and most comprehensive school of music. Offering B.Mus. programs in performance, music education (conjoint B.Mus/B.Mus.Ed.), musicologies, and composition to 165 undergraduate students, the School also has graduate programs in performance, performance/pedagogy and conducting (M.Mus), and in ethnomusicology (M.A./Ph.D.). The School’s faculty of 23 performers, scholars, and composers enjoy national and international reputations in their fields and are active partners in the community’s vibrant cultural life. Qualifications: Qualifications for the position include a doctorate in a relevant area (completed or ABD), demonstrated excellence in music research, and evidence of successful teaching. A completed earned doctorate is required for the appointee to receive the rank of Assistant Professor and to be in a tenure-track position. If a successful candidate has not completed an earned doctorate, he/she shall be appointed to a regular term, non-renewable three-year appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. If the candidate completes all the requirements for the doctorate during the first 24 months of the term appointment, he/she shall begin a tenure-track appointment following completion of the requirements of the degree. Job Description/Responsibilities: The position of music theorist in the School of Music at Memorial University of Newfoundland offers an excellent opportunity to provide significant and meaningful influence on the development of young musicians. Accordingly, the School of Music seeks to fill the following position for September 2013: A tenure-track appointment in Music Theory at the rank of Assistant Professor. The School is searching for candidates who can deliver teaching excellence in core and upper-level, undergraduate theory. The ability to teach in a secondary area of expertise is a strong asset. The successful candidate will take a leading role in the administration and continued development of the core theory curriculum while also contributing to the vibrant research community at the School of Music. Salary Range: Salary for this position is dependent on qualifications and experience in accordance with the terms of the Collective Agreement.
