Institution: University of British Columbia Position: Assistant Professor of Music Theory General Information: The UBC School of Music (http://www.music.ubc.ca/) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Music Theory, beginning July 1, 2014. The Theory Division is an integral part of a dynamic School of Music, situated in a beautiful, culturally diverse metropolis, that offers a full range of undergraduate and graduate programs in music, including M.A. and Ph.D. programs in music theory, musicology, and ethnomusicology. Our faculty is known for contributions to theories and analysis of modernist and contemporary art music, theories of rhythm and meter, performance analysis, and world music analysis. We seek a versatile scholar with complementary research interests and an aptitude for innovative teaching and collaborative curriculum development. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. or expect to submit the dissertation by September 2014. Duties will include undergraduate- and graduate-level teaching, research and publication in areas of specialty, and service to the Division and the School. Applications must include a letter of application and CV outlining primary and secondary research interests, one research/publication sample, a concise record of teaching experience and effectiveness, and short descriptions (150-250 words each) outlining two upper-level undergraduate and two graduate courses they could offer to enrich our programs.
