Institution: Montclair State University Position: Assistant/Associate Professor General Information: September 1, 2014 Qualifications: Doctorate in music composition (or equivalent professional experience) with at least four years of higher education teaching experience is required. Candidates must demonstrate strong credentials in the area of music composition, with a commitment to creativity, performance and teaching, as well as experience in the application of technology to the development of pedagogy in music composition and other areas of music training. A commitment to the nurturing of young musicians and composers is expected, and teaching experience in music theory and aural skills is welcomed. Job Description/Responsibilities: The John J. Cali School of Music is seeking a full-time, tenure-track faculty member in the area of Music Composition to teach courses in its graduate and undergraduate music theory-composition curriculum. Courses taught will include, but not be limited to, Composition Practicum, applied composition lessons, Orchestration, Counterpoint, and 20th and 21st Century Music History. The John J. Cali School of Music collaborates with the School of Communication & Media and various other programs in developing exciting new interdisciplinary initiatives, so a broad experience in forms such as ethnomusicology, jazz, film composition, musical theater and/or dance is sought. In addition, the successful appointment will be an integral part of the University-wide initiative to develop online and hybrid/blended courses and programs.
