Position: Assistant Professor of Composition

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
● PhD or DMA (completed or in hand at time of appointment);
● Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college level;
● Evidence of creative achievement as demonstrated through public performances,
presentations and publications.
Desired Qualifications:
● Demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate core theory classes;
● Demonstrated excellence in teaching at both graduate and undergraduate levels;
● Ability to teach in an area of specialized interest, which might include but is not limited
to: 20th/21st-century music theory, music technology, sound art, digital culture, improvisation or music for film and stage.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

The School of Music in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University seeks an exceptional artist-scholar in the area of music composition for a full-time tenure-track appointment at the assistant professor level beginning fall 2014.
The School of Music seeks applicants who would contribute a unique voice to the composition program and provide excellent teaching to the composition and theory areas. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue and maintain a high level of creative research, teach composition and composition-related courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, teach classes in music theory including those in the core curriculum, collaborate with faculty
colleagues in recruiting students and in the development of curricular initiatives, and engage in professional service.
