Institution: New England Conservatory Position: Music Theory Faculty General Information: The Music Theory Department is looking for a dynamic, versatile and collegial scholar to complement the current department faculty areas of expertise and fulfill the department’s curricular needs. The main duties for this full-time position include teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including music theory studio, as well as fulfilling departmental duties. This individual reports to the Chair of Music Theory. Qualifications: Candidates should meet the majority of the following criteria: 1. Strong background in Transformational Theory applied to a wide range of repertoire. 2. Understand interdisciplinary connections between music theory, mathematics and computation in research and teaching. 3. Have knowledge of music technology and its application to development of music theory curriculum, showing a flexible approach to exploring the best use of new tools for learning. 4. Express interest in the psychology of aural perception. 5. Understand the history of music theory/ 6. Show direct experience working as a team member with the ability to teach in a student-centric conservatory environment. 7. MM required; PhD or DMA preferred. 8. Proven commitment to the interdisciplinary approach to teaching and/or research. 9. Background in performance or composition with Conservatory-level training for at least one level of education. 10. Committed educator with a minimum of 2 years of college-level experience. Qualified candidates should submit a letter of intent, CV, and a list of 3 references. Teach undergraduate and graduate level electives as well as core music theory curriculum, such as Tonal Practice (Harmony) and Solfege, as needed. 2. Teach music theory studio for theory majors. 3. Coordinate multiple sections of core courses. 4. Participate in department meetings and on faculty committees. 5. Fulfill other administrative duties, as needed.
