Institution: Northwest College Position: Assistant Professor of Music Qualifications: Required: Master’s degree in Music from a regionally accredited college or university Commercial performance experience Documented successful teaching Guitar expertise Experience in promoting learning in and/or out of the classroom Demonstrated commitment to assessment of student academic achievement Demonstrated commitment to continued professional development Preferred: A high level of personal artistry on guitar or other instrument(s) relevant to American popular music Experience in music industry current trends Experience with emerging music technology Interest in integrating informal and formal pedagogies Experience in delivering distance education, hybrid, and/or online classes Proficiency in computer applications Demonstrated understanding and a commitment to the community college mission Advising and student support experience Job Description/Responsibilities: Tenure track faculty position in multi-faculty, highly visible music program. Primary emphasis of the position is American popular music classes and ensembles. Develop an engaging American popular music performance curriculum for freshman and sophomore majors and non-majors. Position typically requires a teaching load of the equivalent of 30 credits per year. Priority is on excellent teaching including online instruction, along with advising, assessment, service, student recruitment, curriculum development, articulation with high school and university faculty and professional development activities. Division responsibilities are described in the faculty employment policies section of the Employment Handbook. Design and teach innovative courses in Music Theory, American Music, and class guitar Develop and direct popular music ensembles Participate in music program recruitment Direct guitar ensemble Provide high quality, engaging instruction Assist in the on-going development and assessment of curriculum Develop course syllabi for assigned courses and effective varied instruction techniques that promote learning and address student achievement of expected learning outcomes Evaluate student performance and achievement of course, program, and all-college student learning outcomes Recommend appropriate texts and teaching aids which will be of the most value to the teaching-learning process Contribute to delivery of instruction using distance delivery methods Assist with academic advising and other related activities to include: - Advise students and support students in program-related activities - Post and observe office hours for the purposes of academic advising and student consultation. Hold office hours at times that support student success. Meet with students as needed by appointment. - Advise and assist students during the ongoing registration process.
