Institution: University of the Arts Position: Assistant Professor of Jazz Theory Qualifications: Master’s Degree required; significant experience that reflects a record of excellence in creative and scholarly achievement, and proven success teaching at the college level is essential; knowledge in, and experience with contemporary and traditional undergraduate music core subjects appropriate to a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies degree program; demonstrated ability to work collegially with faculty, staff, and guest artists; a background of contribution to the academic and performance fabric of a contemporary music school in a collaborative all-arts university environment. Job Description/Responsibilities: Teach and coordinate undergraduate core courses in the School of Music’s Bachelor’s degree programs. These subject areas include music theory, musicianship, jazz theory, jazz ear training, jazz improvisation, and class jazz piano. Depending on the interests and expertise of the successful candidate, additional teaching activities in related areas such as applied (instrumental, vocal, or composition), ensemble, or an interdisciplinary interest may be included. Preference will be given to those with a background in jazz and contemporary music composition.
