Qualifications:

Candidates should have a completed or nearly completed graduate degree in music, and teaching experience at the University level in Theory and Composition. The ideal candidate will also be comfortable teaching introductory music history. This is a fall/ winter term appointment for the period July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2016, with classes in session from September to April.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

The School of Music at Queen's University invites applications from suitably qualified candidates interested in teaching courses in music theory and composition on a two-year contract in 2014/15 and 2015/16. Courses in 2014/15 will be MUSC 191/6.0, Theory and Analysis I, and MUSC 153/6.0, Composition Seminar. MUSC 191 is fall-winter, on-campus course for first-year Bachelor of Music Students, and Bachelor of Arts Students majoring in music that covers diatonic harmony and composition, analysis of phrase structure and simple forms in tonal music, and a brief introduction to species counterpoint. Expected enrollment is 60-75 students and scheduling includes three hours of classes plus three hours of tutorials. MUSC 153 is a fall-winter on-campus introductory course in acoustic music composition taken as an elective by both BMus and non-BMus students. Expected enrollment is approximately 24 students and it is scheduled to meet once each week for two hours. Courses in 2015/16 may include more advanced theory, composition, or introductory history of music.
