Position: Assistant Professor of Music/Music Theory/Digital Music Production

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications (Applicants must meet one of the following):
Possess from an accredited institution: A master's degree in music OR bachelor's degree in music AND master's degree in humanities, OR
Possess a valid California Community College credential authorizing service in the discipline, OR
The equivalent (applicants who do not meet the above minimum qualifications must complete the Equivalencies Section in the application form and provide conclusive evidence of such).
Desirable Qualifications
The successful candidate must have extensive experience teaching college level lower-division music theory including fundamentals, diatonic harmonization, chromatic harmonization, and 20th century techniques.
Experience teaching general education music classes such as music appreciation, jazz history and/or rock music history at the college level.
Candidate will have either teaching or professional experience with digital music production processes, software, and hardware involving MIDI, audio recording and audio editing.
Must have the ability to teach Logic software.
Experience teaching instrumental classes (e.g. piano, guitar, strings) or directing instrumental or vocal ensembles is preferred but not required.
Familiarity with instructional computer applications that aid instruction such as PowerPoint, music notation, music instructional software, and course management systems (e.g. Blackboard).
Ability to teach in multiple areas of a comprehensive music program as needed by the department.
Ability to prioritize tasks, establish and meet deadlines, and work cooperatively with others.
Experience in teaching students from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds and widely varying levels of proficiency preferred.
A working knowledge of and experience with student learning outcomes and assessment.

Note: Applicants selected for interview will be required to demonstrate their teaching technique by lecturing on a topic in music theory provided by the interview committee. Applicants will also present short lecture demonstrations in digital music production as well music appreciation, jazz history or rock music history; details will be sent before the interview.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

Teaches all levels of lower division music theory including fundamentals, harmony, composition, and 20th century techniques. Teaches courses in MIDI, digital audio production and editing, and synchronization of music to video on Logic software. Teaches general education classes in music appreciation, jazz history and/or rock music history to non-music majors. Assignment includes establishing relationships with local audio production professionals and post-production businesses in support of our Apple certified Digital Music Production Certificate program. Assignment may include teaching performance classes in such areas as piano, guitar, strings, voice, or other area of specialization, or directing instrumental or vocal ensembles. Maintains a teaching schedule that includes day and evening classes.

Salary Range: 53,554.86--90,579.07
