Institution: Santa Clara University Position: Academic Year Adjunct Lecturer Qualifications: Minimum qualifications: 1) Masters degree in theory/composition, with experience in electronic media preferred; 2)minimum one year of teaching music theory, composition, and electronic music at the college level (not as a teaching assistant). Experience in improvisation, a plus. 3) Ability to create, organize, and teach classes to all levels of incoming students, including majors and non-majors. Job Description/Responsibilities: Faculty responsibilities include teaching and service, as specified by the Santa Clara University Faculty handbook (sec. 3.6). Duties include, but are not limited to: 1) Planning and teaching six courses over three quarters (fall, winter, spring) in a comprehensive, sequenced program of music theory, covering basic rudiments to figured bass, part-writing, and score analysis. The seventh course will be in electronic music or, possibly, improvisation, as deemed appropriate to the department’s overall curricular needs and the successful candidate’s experience, as assigned by the chair. In addition to the seven courses, this person will have the opportunity to teach private lessons in the field of his/her expertise for additional compensation. 2) Fulfilling all responsibilities associated with assigned courses, including a) Conducting all assigned class meetings and individual conferences with students; b) Assigning and evaluating written work that aligns with the course description and with course learning outcomes; c) Holding weekly office hours on campus; d) Submitting student grades to the Office of the Registrar by the designated deadline; e) Administering numerical and narrative evaluations for all courses; f) Fulfilling other instructional or academic duties as may be assigned by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences or the Chair of the Music Department. Salary Range: $49,000 - $51,800, per year depending on teaching experience; benefits eligible. This range corresponds to a seven-course teaching load.
