Experience running a Mac OSX server required. Experience with music notation and graphic art software, including MIDI digital audio sequencing and editing software required. Experience in multimedia design capabilities required. Experience in staff management required. Experience installing and configuring computer hardware required. Apple Certified Macintosh Technician preferred. Experience with networking, web design and website maintenance preferred. Familiarity with online course management systems, wiki, blog, podcast, and video¬-conferencing preferred. Familiarity with mobile device use with online and cloud services such as Google Apps, DropBox, iCloud, etc. preferred. Familiarity with web content management systems preferred. Education/Licensing: High school education required; Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred. Training in instructional technology preferred. Job Description/Responsibilities: POSITION OBJECTIVE Working with a high degree of independence and under general direction, the information technology coordinator will lead the Core Media Lab in practical and theoretical applications of IT to the study of music, music production, music education, scholarship and performance. The coordinator will support faculty, staff, and students by providing IT and media resources to support research, academic and administrative goals. This includes effective development and management of lab and other departmental IT resources, leveraging university-wide IT resources, and supervising graduate and undergraduate personnel. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Maintain computers, servers, data backup, hardware and software for the Core Lab, faculty/ staff, and Department of Music classrooms. 2. Consult with faculty to assist in the selection and appropriate use of hardware and software to meet instructional, performance and research goals. 3. Interview, hire and supervise student lab assistants. Delegate duties and oversee operations of student staff. 4. Manage support for IT-related issues such as email, web or network outages by working with CWRU ITS to help provide the best possible IT environment and support for faculty, staff and students. 5. Provide faculty, staff and students with general training in the use of software and hardware used in music notation, sequencing, audio recording, graphic design, web-design and creation of other educational media for classroom, research or presentations. 6. Install and update software; diagnose and troubleshoot software and hardware problems. 7. Identify classroom technology needs in consultation with faculty; coordinate equipment. 8. Identify solutions for expanding information technology needs of the department. 9. Coordinate development of the core with other CWRU facilities and expertise to leverage the resources elsewhere in the university and to share the expertise and resources of the core with the campus community in appropriate ways. 10. Keep abreast of new instructional and communication technologies and industry trends and make recommendations that will advance the use of these technologies for music research, education and performance. 11. Assist faculty in writing grants to support special projects and hardware/software needs. 12. Serve, in coordination with the department assistant, as principal web content manager for the department website. 13. Work with databases as needed by the department. 14. Manage the core budget, in consultation with the chair and department assistant. 15. Maintain local and virtual server instances running linux and Mac OS X Server as appropriate.
