Institution: Temple University Position: Assistant Professor of Music Theory General Information: Tenure track Qualifications: A completed doctoral degree is required. The ideal candidate will have a record of publications with a strong promise for a national reputation. The candidate must be capable of creating innovative courses for both music majors and non-majors. Ability to take a leadership role in Boyer?s Ph.D. in Music program is required. The successful candidate must be able to engage highly talented musicians and dancers who major in a variety of performance and academic areas (jazz, performance, musicology, music theory, composition, music therapy, music education, and dance). A record of strong teaching is required. Job Description/Responsibilities: The Boyer College of Music and Dance seeks a music theorist with a strong background in critical theory and a research agenda that focuses broadly on music and culture. The successful candidate will have expertise in an array of musical repertories and a familiarity with developments in music theory, analysis, and musicology. Possible research areas include but are not limited to: hermeneutics, performance and analysis, affect studies, music and race, music and politics, music and subjectivity, music and anthropology (ethnomusicology), music and the media, music and disability studies. Teaching duties will include but not be limited to undergraduate courses in the music-theory sequence, undergraduate writing courses in the candidate?s area of expertise, graduate seminars, courses for non-music majors.
