Institution: Missouri Western State University Position: Chair General Information: The Department of Music is seeking a full-time faculty member to serve as department chair and to teach and coordinate the department’s music theory and aural training sequence, beginning August, 2015. Job Description/Responsibilities: CHAIR, DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC- The Department of Music is seeking a full-time faculty member to serve as department chair and to teach and coordinate the department’s music theory and aural training sequence, beginning August, 2015. Responsibilities include teaching and administration of music curriculum design, development of academic policies, student advisement, class scheduling, making teaching assignments, oversight of all public performances, attracting and retaining a superior faculty, monitoring the progress of new faculty on their path to tenure, and maintaining a high quality of teaching through student evaluations and observations by faculty colleagues. Additional responsibilities include developing and management of departmental budgets, oversight of facilities and equipment, and responding to concerns referred by faculty, students, university officials and outside constituents. The Chair position is subject to renewal on a three-year basis, pending review of the candidate’s performance. Salary and Rank Commensurate with qualifications and experience. REQUIRED: PhD in music theory, or equivalent, from an accredited institution of higher education; academic experience and qualifications meriting appointment as a Chair of a Department; experience with program assessment and accreditation. PREFERRED: Previous teaching and administrative experience in higher education and a background in theory pedagogy.
