Institution: Harford Comunity College

Position: Music Faculty - Extended Term Appointment

General Information:

This is a 10-month extended term appointment, which carries academic rank but is not tenure-eligible. The position is scheduled to begin August 2015. Extended term faculty contracts are automatically renewed annually based on the recommendation of the Dean.

Qualifications:

A master's degree in music theory and/or music composition and two years of full-time teaching experience at the college level are required; a doctorate and experience teaching in a community college setting are preferred. Applicants must have knowledge of and the ability to teach various music software including Finale, Sibelius, Reason, and Melodyne. Recording and editing experience using Pro Tools is a plus. Other requirements include experience in developing and working within a budget, experience in recruiting and mentoring; the ability to assist in the evaluation of part-time music faculty members; the ability to take the lead in course- and program-level assessment. Experience in curriculum development and course scheduling are preferred.
All faculty members should have a well-articulated understanding of the role of community colleges and their students; experience in and the ability to utilize innovative methodologies, techniques, technology, and various delivery methods to continually improve student learning; have effective communication skills, including the ability to interact successfully with colleagues, students, and potential students outside of the classroom environment, in activities that are discipline-related, and with outside agencies.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

The faculty member is responsible for developing instructional material and teaching all aspects of Music Theory I-IV, including part-writing, ear training, sight singing, etc., and Introduction to Electronic Music. Additional courses may include music history, appreciation, and/or ensemble.

In addition, faculty members are expected to stay current in their disciplines and in teaching methodologies; implement changes in instruction based on assessment results; work with outside agencies, such as government, education, or business in order to promote the College and the Visual, Performing, and Applied Arts (VPAA) division; maintain reasonably distributed office hours; develop and revise curriculum, participate in a variety of college committees and task forces, and advise students as appropriate. Faculty members are also expected to demonstrate leadership in teaching, discipline activities, and college service, and participate in community service.


Salary Range: Starting Salary Range: $44,555 - $51,134
