Institution: University of Miami - Frost School of Music Position: Assistant Professor of Practice in Music Theory General Information: The Frost School of Music at the University of Miami invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Practice in Music Theory to begin Fall 2016. We seek an individual with strong commitment to teaching, significant interest in new (pedagogical and analytical) paradigms, and distinct potential to actively contribute to the Frost School's Experiential Music Curriculum for undergraduate students. Preference given to candidates who can incorporate composition into the rigorous (traditional) two-year Music Theory sequence, and candidates with strengths in advanced analysis techniques and/or conducting a new music ensemble. Qualifications: Terminal degree in Music Theory or Composition required (D.M.A. or Ph.D.) with demonstrated success in teaching at the college level. This is a full-time, non-tenure-track appointment. Professor of Practice positions are given renewable 3-year contracts. Duties include teaching the equivalent of four courses a semester within music theory (at the undergraduate and graduate level), coordinating teaching assistants, and engaging in service within the institution.
