Institution: Ohio University Position: Lecturer of Music Theory General Information: GENERAL INFORMATION – One of four schools in the College of Fine Arts, the School of Music plays a significant role in the vibrant cultural life of Ohio University and Southeast Ohio. School of Music students, faculty, and guest artists present over 200 concerts and recitals each year. A distinguished faculty of 37 full time and 8 part time professors serves a student body of approximately 235 undergraduate and 65 masters students. The School of Music has been fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) since 1946. Ohio University is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer. Qualifications: Doctoral degree and evidence of achievement in music theory required. Successful candidates will also possess the following: a documented record of effective music theory teaching; a dedication and commitment to teaching core classes in music theory and mentoring undergraduate students; familiarity with a broad range of contemporary music theory, especially theory pedagogy; expertise in utilizing current and innovative uses of technology in the classroom and in the delivery of course content; strong keyboard and musicianship skills. While ongoing research is not a requirement for continuation and advancement in this position, preference may be given to applicants who have a prior record of accomplishments, research, and publication in music theory. Job Description/Responsibilities: RESPONSIBILITIES – Teach core undergraduate classes in music theory and aural skills; teach upper-division and master’s level music theory courses; contribute to the coordination and advancement of the core music theory curriculum. School/college/university service and other duties as assigned. Salary Range: Salary is commensurate with experience.
