Position: Dean Belmont University College of Visual and Performing Arts

General Information:

Belmont University is seeking a creative, visionary leader for the position of Dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts. This position is a full-time, 12-month, tenured faculty position (rank to be determined by qualifications) reporting directly to the University Provost.

Qualifications for the Position

Education: Requires a doctoral degree in a discipline related to those offered in the College (terminal degree preferred).

Knowledge:

Knowledge of current trends and innovations across the spectrum of the visual and performing arts

Knowledge of current trends and innovations in higher education

Skills and Abilities:

Ability to provide innovative leadership to artist-faculty and sustain focus on vision

Experience in budget development, management and stewardship

Ability to supervise staff and college personnel

Knowledge and experience in accreditation

Ability to lead program development and to design programs in collaboration with the College and, as needed, across campus

Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Ability to interact effectively with multiple and diverse constituencies (from students and faculty to community arts and education leaders and university donors)

Entrepreneurial ability

Effective managerial skills characterized by fairness, adaptability, and willingness to innovate

Capacity for effective fundraising

Ability to foster effective professional development of faculty

Ability to guide the college through relevant accreditation processes

Experience:

Significant record of ethical leadership in the arts in higher education

Significant record of professional and/or intellectual contributions to one or more arts areas represented in the College

Job Description/Responsibilities:

Job Duties

Enhance the current programs and develop new models and educational opportunities in the arts with an emphasis on the integration of the visual and performing arts within the liberal arts educational framework

Recruit and retain faculty of excellence to enhance and grow the mission and role of the College on and off campus

Administer the instructional program and oversee the management of the budget and other operational needs of the college

Cultivate and sustain relationships with external constituencies and partners

Serve as an ambassador for the arts and related liberal arts programs at all levels of community engagement

Work collaboratively with administrators, faculty, staff, and students to advance the goals of the College within the mission and vision of the University

Stay abreast of the trends in the integrated arts and in higher education in order to maintain the currency of University programs
