Institution: Lawrence University Position: Assistant Professor - Music Theory General Information: The Conservatory of Music at Lawrence University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in music theory to begin in Fall 2017. We seek a scholar/teacher of outstanding accomplishment or potential to contribute to the Conservatory’s tradition of excellence in training thoughtful, accomplished musicians and scholars. Appointment begins September 1, 2017. Qualifications: Ph.D. in music theory by the date of appointment. Solid command of tonal harmony, voice leading, and form; enthusiasm for teaching a canon-centric core curriculum and for developing canon-stretching and/or otherwise cutting-edge upper-level electives. Evidence of potential for outstanding teaching and for significant scholarly contributions in any area of specialization within the field of music theory. Job Description/Responsibilities: Teach first- and second-year music theory and aural skills, as well as upper-level theory electives. Contribute to the coordination and advancement of the core theory curriculum and the music theory major. Pursue an active research agenda and contribute to the broader intellectual mission of the university, of which the latter may include occasionally teaching Freshman Studies, an introduction to the liberal arts that is the foundation of a Lawrence education.
