Position: Assistant Professor

General Information:

Tenure track, 10-month, effective August 1, 2017. University System of Georgia policy requires the completion of a background check as a prior condition of employment.

Qualifications:

Doctorate required. The ideal candidate will be an innovative and engaging theory pedagogue with demonstrated success in one or more of the areas listed above, and the desire to work in a highly collaborative environment.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

Teach in the Music Theory sequence and oversee the undergraduate and graduate Theory curriculum. Maintain a creative/research agenda and active engagement in recruiting and service activities. Other duties and teaching will be assigned according to departmental needs, and will be selected from: Applied Music, Composition, Accompanying/Keyboard, and Jazz Studies, or other assignments according to the experience and expertise of the successful candidate.

Salary Range: Commensurate with experience

Located approximately 50 miles west of Atlanta in Carrollton, the University of West Georgia is a culturally diverse coeducational, residential, liberal arts institution in the University System of Georgia. UWG enrolls over 13,000 students from throughout Georgia as well as from other states and several foreign countries. The Department of Music currently enrolls about 130 undergraduate and graduate majors, with 11 full-time and 13 part-time faculty. The Department offers the Bachelor of Music degree with majors in Composition, Music Education, and Performance, as well as Performance with emphases in Jazz Studies and Piano Pedagogy. The Master of Music degree is offered with majors in Music Education (100% online) and Performance. UWG is an accredited institutional member of NASM.
