Position: Assistant Professor

General Information:

The Faculty of Music at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time, tenure-stream position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Music Theory beginning July 1, 2017.

The Faculty of Music is a division of the University of Toronto, Canada’s largest university. Located in the heart of one of North America’s most diverse and culturally vibrant cities, the Faculty of Music plays a vital part in Toronto’s active musical life and offers degrees in composition, music education, music and health sciences, music technology and digital media, musicology/ethnomusicology/music theory, and performance, including jazz and opera. There are 900 students, 600 undergraduate and 300 graduate students.

Qualifications:

A completed Ph.D. is required by the time of the appointment or shortly thereafter. Evidence of excellence in teaching and research is required. Excellence in research is demonstrated by publications in academic journals, presentations at major conferences, and strong endorsements by referees of high international standing. Evidence of excellence in teaching is demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, strong letters of reference and teaching dossier submitted with the application.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

Candidates specializing in any area of music theory will be considered. The committee especially encourages applications from candidates with expertise in areas that complement existing departmental strengths. Responsibilities will include undergraduate and graduate teaching, graduate advising, research and publication, and university service.

Salary Range: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
