Institution: Mount Holyoke College Position: Assistant Professor General Information: The Music Department at Mount Holyoke College invites applications for an Innovation Hire in Digital Music and Entrepreneurship, beginning July 1, 2017. Innovation Hires begin as four-year contracts but are budgeted as regular tenure-track lines and the process of faculty development and review is identical to those of tenure-track candidates, with reappointment review after three years. At this point, the curricular innovation itself is also reviewed. In the case of a successful reappointment and curricular innovation review, the innovation hire would convert to a tenure track line and proceed as if in the fourth year of a tenure track line. Qualifications: A Master’s degree is required, doctorate preferred. College and/or professional experience is required. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of strong teaching at the undergraduate level and experience mentoring students who are broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion. This position will carry a 2/2 teaching load that will include introductory or intermediate courses, as well as advanced courses in the applicant’s specialty. The successful applicant should also have experience in program building with an interest in creating cross-disciplinary conversations and initiatives. Commitment to liberal arts education, the ability to contribute to the wider educational aims of the Department, and the capacity to reflect the College’s commitment to diversity through course offerings are essential. Job Description/Responsibilities: The successful candidate will teach courses in digital music and music entrepreneurship at the introductory level, and develop more advanced courses and initiatives in her/his substantive areas of research and practice interest. For example, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to help shape and participate in interdisciplinary conversations about the upgrading of a SoundLab in the department, as well as developing project-based curricula and programming partnerships with other departments in the Humanities and STEM disciplines, and that engage the Five Colleges and Pioneer Valley academic and performing arts communities.
