Institution: Middlebury College Position: Visiting Assistant Professor of Music General Information: The Music Department invites applications for a 2-year term position in music theory at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor, to begin in September 2017. Qualifications: Candidates should have a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in music, teaching experience in music theory, demonstrate artistic achievement and/or scholarly potential, and be committed to teaching in a liberal arts environment. Applicants with experience in jazz, popular, folk, and/or world music idioms are especially encouraged to apply. Job Description/Responsibilities: Responsibilities include teaching music theory and electives depending on specialization. The Department is open to a wide variety of approaches to music theory pedagogy. We are especially interested in approaches to music theory that are global and culturally inclusive and diverse. We are also interested in the integration of theory into the Department’s current offerings in music history, analysis, composition, performance, and ethnomusicology and/or world music.
