Institution: Washington University Position: Full-time, tenure track position General Information: Washington University in St. Louis announces a full-time, tenure-track position in music to begin in Fall semester 2007. We are looking for a candidate with broad interests and a primary focus in music theory. Consideration of applications will begin on October 30, 2006, and continue until the position is filled. Qualifications: Completed Ph.D. in music, or equivalent education and experience, and demonstrated excellence in teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to combine an active research career with a dedication to teaching music in a liberal arts environment. While the area of specialization is open, preference will be given to candidates who can engage in interdisciplinary teaching. Job Description/Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in tonal and 20th century theory, analysis, and musicianship, as well as occasional graduate seminars in areas of expertise; maintain an active profile of research and publication; supervise independent projects, theses, and dissertations; and participate on departmental and university committees. A strong commitment to teaching undergraduate theory and musicianship is expected. The Department has 21 full-time and 16 part-time faculty and numerous teachers of applied music, many drawn from the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra and the St. Louis jazz scene. Bachelor's and Master's degrees are offered with emphases in theory, history, composition, and performance. The Ph.D. is offered in theory and musicology.
