Institution: University of Louisville Position: Assistant Professor General Information: tenure-track starting August 1, 2017 Qualifications: Required Qualifications: completed Ph.D. in Music Theory by August 1, 2017; demonstrated evidence of scholarship and promise of its continuation. Preferred Qualifications: one to two years of full-time music theory teaching experience; research expertise in 20th-21st century music; expertise with technology-mediated instruction, including on-line instruction. Job Description/Responsibilities: The School of Music at the University of Louisville invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track music theory scholar and teacher. The successful candidate will be a dedicated pedagogue and committed to a robust program of scholarly productivity. As a faculty member in the School of Music he or she will become an active faculty partner in furthering the mission of the school and university and supporting the goals of the Music Theory concentration. The Music Theory program of studies offers courses supporting the full range of undergraduate and graduate music degrees as well as professional training in music theory leading to a MM in Music Theory and BM in Music Theory. Responsibilities Teaching: Each semester includes assigned teaching drawn from a mix of undergraduate and graduate music theory core courses, music theory seminar for music theory majors, and direction of senior and graduate music theory theses. Courses in the core undergraduate music theory sequence currently blend keyboard, performance, and written/aural theory skills. Scholarship: The area of scholarship is open, with preference for research expertise in 20th-21st century music and the expectation for steady and significant scholarly contributions. Service: Faculty members serve on department, school and university committees; thesis committees; and perform appropriate professional service.
