Position: full-time faculty member

Qualifications:

An earned PhD or DMA in Music Theory or Musicology is recommended, as well as significant and successful experience at the college level in teaching, as demonstrated by student achievement and references given. Strong keyboard skills and expertise in a secondary area are preferred. Experience in teaching applied voice and a background in Music Education/Teacher Education with a current public school teaching license will be helpful. Demonstrated interest in and commitment to a multi-faceted music program within the context of a program of liberal arts education is necessary. Effective teaching experience in higher education, evidence of scholarly potential, and a commitment to Christian higher education are essential.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

John Brown University seeks a full-time faculty member of the pre-performance aspects of music beginning August 1, 2017. Responsibilities include teaching the majority of courses found in the music core curriculum – music theory, aural skills, music history/philosophy, and Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI). Other teaching duties/responsibilities will be added as determined by the needs of the department and candidate’s expertise. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to academic advising of students, participation in departmental governance, performance at appropriate public events, and service on university committees.

Salary Range: A competitive salary exists which will be commensurate with training and/or experience.

The Department of Music and Theatre resides within the Division of Communication and Fine Arts and offers courses leading to the degrees of Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, and Bachelor of Music Education. These courses provide a well-rounded education for those wishing to enter the music profession as artists, teachers, supervisors, church musicians, and musicians in other fields. The program in music is closely allied with work in Bible, liberal arts, and technological departments, providing students majoring outside the department of music the opportunity to study music as a minor or as electives.
