Position: Assistant Professor and Coordinator of Music Theory

Qualifications:

Doctorate in music theory or composition required. Demonstration of successful college level teaching skills. The candidate should possess outstanding organizational and communication skills and have interest in collaborative efforts with other faculty within the College of the Arts. There must be a demonstrated commitment to scholarship and creative activity. International faculty members are responsible for obtaining their own work visas.

Successful candidates must be committed to working effectively with diverse student populations. Applicants are expected to describe their commitment to fostering a diverse educational environment through their research, teaching, and/or service activities.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

- Teach undergraduate and graduate theory classes including Counterpoint, Analysis of Musical Form and Analysis of 20th Century Music.
- Teach in applied or other areas of expertise as needs of the School of Music warrant.
- Assist with student advising and participate in academic affairs of the department.
- May be required to teach in general areas of music and participate in committee work as warranted by departmental need, or as assigned by the Director.

Salary Range: Commensurate with experience

The School of Music & Performing Arts offers the Bachelor of Music degree with concentrations in performance, music media, theory/composition, piano pedagogy, and jazz studies as well as the Bachelor of Arts in Music, with concentrations in Music Education, Music Business, and Traditional Music. The Master of Music degree allows students to specialize in the concentrations of performance, music education, theory/composition, conducting, or pedagogy. All music degrees are accredited by
the National Association of Schools of Music.

The School of Music is housed in 56,000 square foot Angelle Hall and hosts approximately 100 concerts, recitals, competitions, or other performances each year. There are numerous opportunities for performance with ensembles sponsored by the School of Music, as well as with other community organizations.
