Institution: Northwestern University Position: Assistant Professor (1 or 2 positions) General Information: The Northwestern University School of Music invites applications and nominations for one or two possible faculty opening(s) in the Program of Music Theory and Cognition. It is anticipated that the appointment(s) will be made at the Assistant Professor level; senior tenured appointments could be made for persons with appropriate qualifications. Start date: September 1, 2007. Screening will begin December 1, 2006 and continue until the position(s) is/are filled. Qualifications: Required: Ph.D. in a relevant field; a record of excellence in teaching and scholarship as evidenced by publications, conference presentations and other appropriate activities. Preferred: Candidates able to teach a range of courses in music theory and whose research interests include music cognition. Job Description/Responsibilities: Teach upper-level courses for undergraduate, masters and doctoral candidates in music theory and cognition, as well as students in other academic and performance areas in the School of Music; direct dissertations and assist in continuing development of the Ph.D. program; participation in the activities of a School of Music in a research university.
