Institution: Stetson University Position: Assistant Professor of Music Theory General Information: Stetson University seeks a vibrant, outstanding musician and scholar for a full-time, nine-month tenure-track position as an assistant professor of Music Theory, starting August 2018. This person will enhance the School of Music's high standards of excellence in academics and performance and prepare undergraduate students for continued placement in acclaimed graduate programs and successful professional careers. Qualifications: Doctorate is required by the time of appointment. Ph.D. in Music Theory is preferred. The candidate must possess a breadth of knowledge necessary to teach all levels of undergraduate music theory. We seek candidates who are passionate about undergraduate education, displaying proven excellence in classroom teaching along with accomplished keyboard skills. Candidates must also show clear promise for future scholarly contributions to the field of music theory. Strong administrative and organizational abilities are required. Job Description/Responsibilities: The position involves teaching core courses and advanced topics in all levels of undergraduate music theory, aural training, keyboard, and additional assignments commensurate with the candidate's expertise. Essential tasks require coordinating classes taught by multiple faculty members and the continuing advancement of a unified music theory curriculum. Further responsibilities include productive collaboration with faculty, administration, and academic advising. In addition to teaching, service responsibilities and an active research agenda are important components of the position. Candidates should demonstrate a passion for the highest quality of teaching, combined with the ability to produce rigorous peer-reviewed academic scholarship.
