Institution: Connecticut College Position: Sylvia Marx Chair in Music General Information: Connecticut College is seeking an experienced, creative, and active composer and teacher of composition to be appointed to the Sylvia Marx Chair in Music at the senior level. This appointment begins in the fall of 2006. Qualifications: We expect the successful candidate to be an energetic teacher who inspires students to do their best work, works collegially with others in the department and reaches out to other performing arts departments on campus. Ph.D. or D.M.A. and significant teaching experience at the college level required. Job Description/Responsibilities: Duties include the teaching of composition in a broad range of styles, both acoustic and electronic; overseeing our electronic music studio; serving as advisor to and overseeing senior projects for students in composition and music and technology; serving as an active member of our Ammerman Center for Arts and Technology; organizing concerts of student compositions and encouraging the performance of other new music on campus; teaching other courses as time permits in such areas as 20th century theory, orchestration, musical analysis.
