Institution: Texas Tech University Position: Assistant Professor of Composition and Music Theory General Information: Tenure track, beginning Fall 2018. The Texas Tech University J.T. & Margaret Talkington College of Visual & Performing Arts, in collaboration with the School of Music, is accepting applications for a tenure track faculty position as Assistant Professor in Composition and Music Theory. This position is for a nationally or internationally prominent Composer/Scholar with a commitment to helping guide the Composition program to national distinction and nurturing the next generation of composers/educators/scholars enrolled in our Undergraduate and Graduate Composition and related programs. Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have demonstrated the ability to form partnerships within and outside of the university, regionally, nationally, and internationally; will have superior knowledge of computer/digital music; proficiency with associated technologies; expertise in acoustic compositional practices; familiarity with current and cutting-edge practices in developing relevant facilities and curricula, including online and distance education delivery platforms; and will have sufficient experience in teaching related to the position of hire. A demonstrated and ongoing commitment to serving diverse student population. Job Description/Responsibilities: DMA or PhD in Music Composition, or equivalent professional experience. Experience teaching at the university level. Record of professional activity and research that demonstrates emerging or established national/international recognition in the field of composition and the ability to teach music theory. Continued professional research/creative scholarship that is relevant to the current and future practice of these fields. Applicable expertise of current compositional practices and speculative theory as regards music composition. A fluency with existing technology and computer-assisted composition is a must, and a vision towards future technological developments in music composition is expected. Commitment to quality, student-centered education and working as a team member. Strong evidence of the ability and desire to perform service, with duties including, but not limited to, recruiting, program-building, and commitment to extra-curricular activities in the department, college, and the university.
