Institution: University of Texas – Rio Grande Valley Position: General Information: Tenure Status Tenure Track FTE 1.0 The University of Texas – Rio Grande Valley is seeking applications for Assistant Professor in Music Theory to join the School of Music in the Fall 2018. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: PhD in Music Theory from an accredited university. ABD applicants will be considered if degree is completed by August 2018. A record of successful theory/ear training teaching at the collegiate level. Discipline-Specific Required Qualifications: Experience teaching Music Theory and Ear Training at the undergraduate level. Basic piano skills required for ear training courses. A record of active scholarship. Preferred Qualifications: Strong piano and vocal skills, usage of movable do (including hand signs), use of theory/ear training technology in the classroom, and experience with diverse student populations. Job Description/Responsibilities: Primary responsibilities include teaching courses in the undergraduate theory and ear training sequence and Form and Analysis. Candidate may also be assigned courses at the graduate level. Candidate will maintain an active research and publication presence in the field of music theory. Other expectations include collegial participation in service activities. This position requires instruction on both the Brownsville and Edinburg campuses. Successful candidate will be assigned the standard academic teaching load for an Assistant Professor.
