Position: Instructor of Music Theory and History

General Information:

The FIU School of Music invites applicants for a nine month, non-tenure earning, Instructor of Music Theory and History. Start Date: Fall 2018.

The FIU School of Music (SOM) is comprised of 250 students and 50 full- and part-time faculty. The SOM offers B.M. and M.M. degrees in composition, performance, music business, and music technology; a B.A. degree in Music; and a B.M. and M.S. in music education.


Qualifications:

Required Qualifications: Earned doctorate in Music; degree must be in hand before August 1, 2018; A minimum of three years of experience teaching at a 4-year university, including music theory, sight singing, music history, electronic music, orchestration, and online classes; and administrative experience that demonstrates effective administrative and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Evidence of excellence in university teaching; experience in designing and implementing undergraduate online courses, and music technology, and electronic music courses; candidates with a strong background in performance and/or composition are preferred.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

Responsibilities and Expectations: develop and teach courses in undergraduate music theory, sight singing, and music history; supervise and implement the School of Music’s Student Success Initiative. The teaching load is four courses per semester.
